Ferrari is a marque connected to the V12 engine but not only to that one: indeed some very interesting models had an engine with the cylinders in line, and among them we all recall the Testarossa, whose name was later adopted for a 12 cylinder as well.
In this issue of Ferrari Story we examine the origins of the Ferrari in line engines, with particular attention to the less known and therefore most fascinating types.
We should like to recall also the Alfa Romeo "bimotore" of 1935, a car made by the Scuderia Ferrari and that, technically speaking could be envisioned as equipped by a 16 cylinders in line unit, a power plant that arguably has no equal in the entire World production.

Ferrari è un marchio legato al motore a 12 cilindri disposti a V, ma non a quello solo: infatti alcuni modelli molto interessanti avevano il motore coi cilindri in linea, e tra tutti ricordiamo il Testarossa, il cui nome venne poi utilizzato anche per un 12 cilindri.
In questo numero di Ferrari Story si analizzano le origini dei motori Ferrari coi cilindri in linea, con particolare riguardo ad alcuni tipi meno noti e per questo sicuramente più affascinanti.
Vorremmo ricordare anche la famosa Alfa Romeo bimotore del 1935, una vettura realizzata presso la Scuderia Ferrari a che tecnicamente si può definire dotate di un propulsore a 16 cilindri in linea, soluzione che probablimente non ha riscontro in tuta le produzione mondiale.

Started life as a supplement to Motor Italia in 1984, Ferrari Story developed to a standalone and mature annual magazine in 1995 until it's demise in 2009.
