The Ferrari F50 was conceived in the late 1980s, primarily by Piero Ferrari, in anticipation of the company's upcoming 50th anniversary - and what a commemoration it would be. While the throwaway cliché "a race car for the street" is heard far too often, the new model, internally code named F130, was exactly that.

In the mid-1990s, after more than 30 years in storage, this Ferrari 250 P (s/n 0812) was pulled out, dusted off and inspected in preparation for a full restoration. Long time owner Luigi Chinetti, Jr. decided to send the car "home" to Italy to be restored.

On January 28, Ferrari unveiled its 2011 Formula 1 car, the Ferrari F150. The name is a reference to the 150th anniversary of Italian unification, the birth of the modern-day country from the then-independent states located on the Italian peninsula.
