The first series production Ferrari flat twelve motor made its public debut in the 365 GT4/BB exhibited by Pininfarina at the 53rd Turin Salon in 1971, the first twelve cylinder Ferrari with a mid mounted motor placement. The "BB" in the model designation stood for "Berlinetta Boxer", with the "Boxer" part of the model title referring to the flat twelve motor.
