An picture of the actual bonnet or "cofano" from Tazio Nuvolari's Ferrari 166 S which he drove in the 1948 Mille Miglia. The extraordinary Argentinian who gave Ferrari its first Grand Prix win

Michael T. Lynch

The Klemantaski Collection

At the end of World War II, Europe lay in ruins and motor racing resumed slowly, using mostly pre-war cars. The untouched, industrialized nations on the west side of the Atlantic had prospered and, especially in America and Argentina, races were being organized. The two countries became prime markets for British and European racing cars.

A first look at this amazing little machine - a V-8 with nearly 380 bhp!

There is much that can be said about the car, however, not only on its actual make up, but also on the whys and wherefores of its actual appearance at this point in time. Interestingly, it has caught everyone off guard, and it has created such a stir that instead of quietly introducing it into the dealer netwerk as the next and logical replacement for the Ferrari 348, Ferrari North America feels compelled to have it share the limelight with the U.S. introduction of the Ferrari 456 GT 2+2 at Monterey.

It's finally here and worth the wait; shown for the first time in the U.S. at Monterey

Ferrari SpA

After a wait of nearly two years, the Ferrari 458 GT 2+2 is coming to America, and will be - has been - introduced along with the Ferrari F355 at the big Ferrari weekend in Monterey. The reasons for the delay are two-fold. In the fist instance, Ferrari always presents its new models to its European clientele immediately; geographically it is easier, and sales are quickly guaranteed. In the second instance, the cars destined for America need more work to comply with U.S. safety and environmental laws.

Not since 1984 had a Ferrari, let alone four, taken the stat of the twenty four hour classic; it was a very special heartwarming sight here. There was however, a disappointment; the IMSA F333 SP Ferrari barchettas were not here ... what a waste.

Ferrari F40 triumphs in Suzuka and Vallelunga!
Although little information is available on the Japanese event at the time of going to press, it appears the Swedish Strandell F40, has now given us a feast by winning not only at the Grand prix venue near Nagoya but also, only one week later, at Vallelunga near Rome against a far more consistent opposition!

Ferrari replica's receive credit, but is credit really due them?...
Recently we received a race report over our fax machine about how Ferraris were "1-2-3" at the Chicago Historic Races this year. This was true to an extent; yes, Ferraris did take the top three spots, but for the record you should know that two of the cars were replicas, as were several others in the field.
