The Enthusiast's Magazine of Ferrari
Cavallino is the journal of Ferrari history, covering Ferraris old and new for over 40 years. It's the most reliable, most trusted source of everything Ferrari. Ever since the first issue in 1978 Cavallino presents extensive stories and detailed information from knowledgeable experts and enthusiasts who share the passion for Ferrari. All Ferraris are unique, and each one has its own chassis serial number. This is how the Ferrari world keeps track of all the great cars. Cavallino is the only publication that prints the serial number for every Ferrari mentioned in our stories, articles, and race results.

2 | Commento | The Value of a Vintage Ferrari goes far beyond it's Price Cris Vandagriff Alan Yorgason Customers frequently come into our showroom at Hollywood Sport Cars and ask us about the investment potential of the forthcoming Ferrari 348. I tell our customers that, as with all Ferraris, it probably will be a very good investment. I also tell them that's not the reason to buy one. It's a sign of the times that a new Ferrari model is coming to the U.S. market and it's already the target of financial speculators. |

10 | Mercato | Market Watch Stan Nowak The madness is over! It is back to "normal" business. By that I mean that Ferraris are not usually that easy to sell. It is no longer likely that a multimillion dollar Ferrari will sell on the telephone in one day as it was during the past year and a half of frenzied buying and selling . The new breed of buyer-speculator has too many cars and is now a seller. The buyers are now few and far between and those few are looking for and "up" side to anything they buy. |
20 | Feature | Perseverare A Tribute to Enzo Ferrari Pietro Castiglioni Ferrari, Courtesy of Franco Zagari At a year from Enzo Ferrari's death, we remember his life, a life which he lived to its fullest. It was a life he dedicated to the automobile which was, he declared, "An achievement of freedom for mankind." We must keep Ferrari's dream alive because he made them become a reality with his perseverance. This tribute is dedicated to Enzo Ferrari and all those whose lives he touched with his dreams. |
25 | Feature | California on Tour Ferrari 250 GT California, s/n 1503 does the Show Circuit, and reveals a Hidden Past Len Kratz, D.R. Gaff There is one model Ferrari which everyone admires, and while it may not be everyone's absolute favorite in terms of emotional appeal, it is hard to find anyone who has a bad word to say about it. That model, of course, is the California Spyder and while each example of the type is different in detail, some being more perfect than others aesthetically, the Ferrari 250 GT California concept as a whole is one of the most finished, finalised, and conceptually complete designs that simply can't be improved upon. |
30 | Feature | F40 LM A look at the real Racing Ferrari F40 Keith Bluemel Keith Bluemel In the months leading up to its public unveiling in Maranello in mid 1987, the Ferrari F40 model was widely rumoured to have the model title "Le Mans," and in fact, it was widely referred to by this name by Factory personnel. On the 4th of March this year, the competition F40 developed from the street version by Giuliano Michelotto of Padova, made its testing debut at the Monza circuit, with the official suffix "Le Mans" added to its type number; its model designation had come full circle. |
32 | Feature | 340 MM - Ferrari's Workhorse An appreciation of s/n 0350 AM, which we drove at the recent Mille Miglia and of other 340 MMs Stanley Nowak Guy Mangiamele The Ferrari 340 Mille Miglia was the direct result of Aurelio Lampredi's efforts in designing a new larger engine for Ferrari's Grand Prix racing effort. A 4.1 liter sports car, the 340 America, was debuted at the Paris Salon in October, 1950. In March, 1951, Ferrari displayed a Touring bodied berlinetta at the Turin Auto Show. By the middel of 1952, Ferrari had built twenty two of these and may were raced with mixed results. |
36 | An LM remembered Ferrari 250 LM s/n 5843, continous to race - doing what it should do Alan Yorgason, Alexis Callier We thought you might enjoy seeing an old campaigner that raced well in its prime and which still races today in the hands of its present (and longtime) owners. It's a Ferrari 250 LM, s/n 5843, the third actual model of the series to be built, and in those halcyon days in the mid 1960s when an all purpose racing car could be a grand touring car in disguise, the 250 Le Mans berlinetta was the gentleman driver's dream come true.
40 | Ferrari Prototipi and Sports The Great Old Ferraris gather at Imola Marcel Massini Marcel Massini The Ferrari Club Italia is officially supported by the Factory and its headquarters in Maranello as well. In October, 1987, this club organised an unforgettable meeting with about twenty five ultra rare Ferrari single seaters and the participation of many of the drivers who once raced for Ferrari. This year, on Sunday, June 11, 1989, another remarkable and outstanding meeting took place, featuring the legendary sports and prototype Ferraris at the recently renamed "Circuito Enzo e Dino Ferrari," at Imola.
44 | Notizie | Barchetta - F40 successor... Ferrari is working on another supercar, to follow on after the F40 has had its run in a few years' time, and there was no doubt Ferrari would have such a car, given the overwhelming success of the F40. We hear that the next wonderment will be V-12 powered, will be a spyder, and will be called the Barchetta. |
44 | Notizie | For the more Adventurous The Ferrari 348 Berlinetta will be available this fall, we are told, with the Spyder version being ready in the spring. Later in the year, 1990 that is, Ferrari may surprise us all with a special version 348 - a 348 "Sport"! It will have 20 more horsepower, it will be considerably lighter, and the interior will be toned down to a spartan "racing" look. |
44 | Notizie | FOCUK Concours Brocket Hall, England Keith Bluemel Keith Bluemel Although there had been some overnight rain, and the early morning skies threatened more of the same, it did little, if anything, to detract from the attendance at what is, without doubt, the main event of the Ferrari Oweners Club calendar. |
46 | Notizie | Australian Ferraris gather Timothy R. Colley Timothy R. Colley, Prancing Horse Farm, David Newhart, Ferrari of Houston The Annual Rally of the Australian Ferrari Register was held in Melbourne this year. Members from all over Australia either shipped or drove their Ferraris (to gain bonus concours points) down to Melbourne for the event, most of them staying at the Old Melbourne Hotel, whose car park over the next four days resembled the back lot at Maranello. |
47 | Notizie | U.S. F40 Blues As U.S. customers wait (with somewhat tongue in cheek for the F41s and F42s), they are also wondering what is taking so long. It is part of the Ferrari mythos to have to wait for a new Ferrari, as indeed, the long patient wait is well and truly rewarded, but U.S. customers under contract can only stand around in despair, hands in pockets, as they watch their European brethren having a grand old time with their F40s. |
47 | Notizie | F40 Fun and Games In Europe, buyers and sellers are doing a land office business (if we may borrow an old American phrase) in F40s - everyone has to have one; or rather, everyone seems to want to have a piece of one, as the car only has to stay in your hands a short while before it makes you somewhat rich. |
47 | Notizie | F40 Racing news Again, not much to report except for the recent F40 racing at the Benelux Ferrari meet at Spa. For the Spa 24 Hour endurance race run in July, no F40s were entered, as this is a race for race prepared production sedans, but two F40s ran a match race before the event to delight the crowd. Bertrand Cachot drove one while ex-Formula One driver Keke Rosberg drover the other. |

63 | Corse | The yearly BE-NE-LUX Ferrari Club Meeting, 1989 The Ferrari F40s First Competition Appearance Ed Swart Mobiel Fotolab It was the turn of the Luxemburger Ferrari Owners Club to organize this year's famous Ferrari Benelux event over the late May weekend. They chose the great Spa Francorchamps circuit, situated in the beautiful Belgium Ardennes. The new Francorchamps track still uses part of the public roads for the two main straights, but has also a great new section with challenging corners and fast sweeps which makes it a very nice "drivers' track." |
