To setup and develop a high-performance motor car manufacturing business has never been easy. While it would be costly and expensive merely to contemplate today, amongst the immediate postwar devastation and economic recession of 1945-46 prospects for such a business to succeed must have seemed microscopic.

The 1953 Formula 2 World Championship series commenced in Buenos Aires on January 18. In preparation for this new season, the works cars were modified with 180 bhp power units and new exhaust systems which fed into a single big-bore tailpipe.
Carburettor air intakes were now abbreviated to find a little more midrange torque, the bodies were tidied with rather smoother lines than previously and front suspension geometry was also altered.
