16 25th Anniversary Tour de France Auto Optic 2000
On the Road with your Staff

About 230 participants set off on French roads to discover the country's cultural heritage, and to do battle in the timed events (competition or regularity) on four circuits as well as eleven special stages on clased roads. It was a journey of around 2000 kilometres, from Paris to Cannes in five legs, and to make sure that this anniversary remained firmly engraved in everyone's memory, organizer Peter Auto had added a night stage to the program.

Lett me tell you, my Cavallino friends, about the Tour Auto Optic 2000 25th Edition, or in my own French words, "la crème de la crème". It is the Classic Car event where no driver can get away withour superior driving skills and where no co-pilot dare not te be quick to spot the road book's many ins-and-outs, as well as catching an eye on the wonderful French vistas.

A moving testimonial to an old friend

One of the best known and well-respected international ambassadors in the car collector community is Christian Philippsen. His many accomplishments include founder of the Parc Bagatelle Concours d'Elegance in Paris, esteemed Judge at the Cavallino Classic and Pebble Beach, as well as the organizer of multiple Louis Vuitton tours, suc as the Serenissima Run in 2012. So when Christian decided to put together a European tour to honor Yves Carcelle, the former CEO of Louis Vuitton and long-time supporter of numerous automotive events, you knew the event would be very special.

5th Tour de France Automobile - September 17th to 23rd, 1956

At the end of the 19th Century, the French newspaper "Le Matin" organized a speed race through France, running from the 16th to 24th July, 1899, over a distance of 2.175 km. The first "Tour de France Automobile", reserved for cars and motorcycles, saw the triumph of Panhard & Levassor autos which won the first three places. Thereafter, several "Tours" took place, from 1906 through 1914 prior to the First World War, and then between the two World Wars from 1922 to 1937. It was in 1951 that the "Tour de France Automobile de Nice à Nice" started again, thanks to the Automobile Club de Nice - Côte d'Azur, with the Ferrari 212 Exports winning the first three places.

An Art Essay

The concept of the LaFerrari was the combined work of three departments at Ferrari - the Ferrari Styling Center, Engineering and the Scuderia (where the drivers worked on the performance factors). It retains the classic mid-rear-engine sports car format, but it also had to incorporate the hybrid running gear, which includes the KERS system and the related batteries, plus numerous electronic components that it requires.

A Grand Tradition suitably honored

Exciting as always, this event electrifies Italy for four days, as it takes over a good portion of the countryside, as well as many cities and towns, as the classic cars pass through on their route from Brescia in the north to Rome in the south and back to Brescia again, its spiritual home. From May 19th to the 22nd, all other news becomes secondary as the progress of the entrants is viewed and monitored over approximately 1800 km.

66 Grand Prix du Monaco Historique
The ultimate in Nostalgia

The Grand Prix de Monaco Historique celebrated this year its 10th edition, an event not to be missed. As in previous years, it was contested on the legendary circuit of the principality, and it was designed to attract the attention of worldwide collectors, nostalgic enthusiasts, spectators and ardent supporters of the automobile racing classics of former days. Within two and a half days, from Friday in the afternoon to Sunday, the Principality of Monaco was transformed into a veritable temple of "turning back the clock", with about fifty years of motor racing history commemorated through seven exceptional races.

Held alongside the Grand Prix Historique de Monaco, several auctions sales were also part of the festivities. RM Sotheby's conducted two separate sales sessions during a single day on Saturday, with a total exceeding €27.5m and several records tumbled. All eyes were on the star lots offered during the evening sale, which was packed with an audience of international bidders, creating an electric atmosphere in the magnificent Le Sporting venue.
