14 To Preserve or not to Preserve
Matters of Moment - the debate continues

This subject has come to the fore in recent weeks with the discovery of the Baillon family collection in France, which was presented for sale as individual lots at the Arterial Auction at Retromobile, in Paris, on February 6, 2015. With the massive motoring press coverage of both the find, and then the auction itself, most people are aware of the condition in which the cars were discovered.

Robert Manzon - a remembrance
Remembering this who served Ferrari well

Doyen of Grand Prix drivers and of French glory, Robert Manzon sadly left us at the age of 97. Born on April 9, 1917 in Marseille, Manzon entered, after short schooling, and quite naturally, the active life as an apprentice in the family garage. At the end of the war, and without ever been interested in motor racing, he decided to enter the 1946 Coupe des Alpes with his own Simca 8 cabriolet, where he ended the event in first place!

20 One of the First
Giampiero Bianchetti's Ferraris and races

After the Scuderia Ferrari had concluded its cycle of technical-experimental activity with the clear victory obtained during the Gran Premio Internazionale di Torino at the end of 1947, with the 166 Inter driven by Raymond Sommer, it was decided to put a limited number of these cars in production, in order to propose them to a sporting clientele. And Enzo Ferrari was fortunate enough to be able to count on many noble gentleman drivers, who were avid to acquire an innovative but successful car.

The 2015 Cavallino Classic Seminar

At each Cavallino Classic a Thursday morning seminar is held focusing on a particular model or specific car. Some of us fint it one of the best activities of the week, yet it seems to be an underutilized activity missed by many who arrive later in the day or week. In 2015 the initial focus was on the four 1954 375 MM Pinin Farina Spyders that had their serial numbers changed by Ferrari before they left Italy for delivery to their first owners.

80 A very fine SWB California, s/n 4121 GT

The final presentation was about the California Spyder, built from 1957 to 1963. George had written a comprehensive book on the cars many years ago and he brought new information into his report, accompanied by an effective slide show. To make things even better, on display outside was chassis number 4121 GT, now fully restored, to inspect.
