Ferrari 4-Seaters V12 Pininfarina 2+2; 1960 on

There is a distinct series of Ferrari cars starting with the Ferrari 250 GTE 2+2 and culminating with the 400. The series spans nearly 25 years of production beginning in 1960 and has several key factors about it which interlinks the cars and creates the overall 'series' aspect: front-engine V12 in capacities ranging from 3 to 5 litres, Pininfarina designed coachwork and longwheelbase chassis (and that means 260cm plus) justifying the term attached to each car of '2+2', or four seats.

We have, therefore, a sub-stratum of Ferrari rock which although perhaps seen by many as less 'racy' than other two seater, mid-engined or competition-aimed Ferraris, in fact occupies a valid and fascinating part of the marque's history. All the cars are outstanding to look at, right for their time and timelessly handsome. All run fast and straight as a die, four seats included. Why should the man who wanted room for more than a toothbrush and a young lady not drive a Ferrari? Sensibly Ferrari gave him what he wanted and there proved to be more of 'him' than might first be imagined. Around 1000 330 GT 2+2s were sold between 1963 and 1967!

There's an introduction to the early Fifties production Ferrari 4-seaters, the Type 166, 195 and 212 then the book plunges into the devolpment story of the following: 250 GTE, 330 GT, 500 Superfast, 365 GT, 365 GT4, 400 GT, 400i and 400 automatic, finishing with the 'futurethink' Pinin. These familiar yet interesting cars are uncovered in detail for the first time.
